About the Author
James Cook (1728-1779) was an English explorer, navigator and cartographer. He made three voyages to the Pacific Ocean, accurately charting many areas and recording several islands and coastlines on European maps for the first time.

A detailed account of Cook's voyages

This well prepared abridged edition of Captain James Cook's journals is a specialized book of interest to people studying the exploration of the Pacific and/or the British Navy of that time period. Other people might find sections of it dry reading. The book is recommended for oceanography students as the 17th century voyages of exploration formed the basis for later oceanographic cruises.

Cook's voyages carried scientific personnel of that time period, many of whom died from the harsh conditions along with members of the crews. In addition to bad weather, there were diseases and hostile natives (including cannibals). Extensive charting was carried out and, on the second voyage, the Board of Longitude supplied Cook with Larcum Kendall's copy of John Harrison's H4 watch for determining longitude. Observations were made of prevailing winds, currents, temperature, and other things of scientific interest.

Natives throughout the Pacific would go to great lengths to obtain iron, expecially axes, even prostituting their wives and daughters (willing or not). Natives would attempt to steal items, if they could, leading to numerous confrontations including one in which a boat crew of the Adventure (the consort ship of the second voyage) were killed and eaten by the Maori natives of New Zealand.

Cook's journal ended several weeks before his death. The editor fills in details from journals of other people who were on the voyage, and speculates on the reason he was killed by the natives in Hawaii.

The book includes maps of Cook's routes on his voyages. It also has an index listing the names of the various individuals mentioned, with an indication of their positions on the voyages or their other positions if they were not active participants. While the index mentions the later careers of a few individuals like William Bligh, it makes no mention of John Gore's career (he is listed in the Wikipedia as having died in 1790).

I wish I had read the reviews before paying for this. The key word for this edition is ABRIDGED. According to the editor Philip Edward's introduction, only about a third of Cook's/Beaglehole's text is included.

This is a spectacularly interesting journal. Cook was an odd sort, that's for sure. But a genius? I'd certainly say so after reading his often-daily account of his activities. Really neat book.

Valuable considerations for forecasting software selection and implementation

In 2011 I came across Shaun Snapp's blog (scmfocus.com), and immediately took a liking. In particular, I was drawn to his independent and critical tone, and a willingness to challenge the "objectivity" of many commentators and advisors in the forecasting industry. He also takes a reasoned look at the common dogmas of our profession, with an eye to encouraging what can work, while exposing the marketing fluff and shoddy thinking of the really bad ideas. He is not just another cheerleader hyping the latest forecasting buzzword or fad.

Shaun's book "Supply Chain Forecasting Software" is easy to get through, with points illustrated by screen shots from real forecasting software. The book is not a product-by-product review of the offerings of software vendors (which is what I was originally expecting). Instead, he covers several fundamental topics of a supply chain forecasting process (like statistical forecasting, consensus, collaboration, error management, and lifecycle planning). He also provides numerous links to blog posts where he goes into further detail on these and related topics.

The chapter on attributes-based forecasting argues for the importance of flexible, user-defined hierarchies (as opposed to the static hierarchies that are defined and locked-in during implementation of many software packages.) An attribute is anything that is associated with a product, such as physical characteristic like color or size, or any other categorization (e.g. location, season, target audience). With flexible hierarchies, user can organize data, model, and generate forecasts in a way that is most suitable for the particular situation.

There is also a chapter devoted to forecastable versus unforecastable products, which is an important consideration for anyone trying to manage a supply chain. Rather than expecting to achieve a high level of accuracy for all products, or wasting resources pursuing unachievable levels of accuracy, Shaun shares ideas for identifying and dealing with the unforecastable.

"Supply Chain Forecasting Software" would be a valuable read for organizations considering the selection of new forecasting software. It would also be useful to those organizations that have implemented forecasting systems and process, yet are failing to see the expected/promised results. This book can help any forecaster understand why their efforts may be failing, and what they can do about it.

Valuable Wisdom from a Seasoned Consultant

Mr. Snapp has a keen understanding of the functional and technical approaches to demand forecasting that work (and do not work) in organizations. He is a first rate consultant in all ways and clearly puts the interests of his clients (and readers) ahead of any commercial objectives. This is quite rare and I found it very refreshing.

The book is about 250 pages long, but it is written in a conversational style and can be read in its entirety in one or two sittings. If you're considering purchasing or implementing a tool for demand planning, this would be a fast and very worthwhile read. And, if you have an older system, "Supply Chain Forecasting Software" will certainly broaden your horizons.

The book provides detailed information about a handful of bundled and standalone solutions. If developed further in future editions, I would recommend seeking information on other systems as well.

Written from an actual hands-on well-experienced SAP software engineer, this guide is an invaluable tool for anyone involved within the realm of SAP and also just to aid in a better understanding of the ins and outs of the Manufacturing Supply Chain concept, business model and modules.

Snapp utilizes real experiences from actual forecasting implementations to include clear, precise diagrams and charts to further illustrate his points.

This is a great guide within the SCM Focus series. I have gotten 3 other books within the series and with the risk of being redundant, I feel they are all invaluable.

Liv is a successful business woman. But she's not really happy with that life.

So against the advice of her therapist and her parents - she decides to leave her corporate life for a while, and rents a beach house in a little spanish town near Barcelona.
To do what? She's not really sure...to find herself? To find happiness? To find love? To just chill and relax? She doesn't really know, but she will probably notice it, once it happens.

Once there she very soon finds good friends at the local coffee-shop.
And she finds HIM.
Well, she didn't really find him, she accidentally flashed him, while standing on her terrace one day.
Then she saw him again at the café and again at a club... she still doesn't know his name, just that he's the most gorgeous man she's ever seen.
And he keeps flirting with her... this perfect man, flirting with this chubby, slightly older woman!
But she's not in spain for a one-night-stand...or is she??
But definitely not for something more, right?
And pffff, as if this gorgeous and young GQ-Calvin-Klein-Latino-Abercrombie-Model would be interested in anything long-term...with her!

I REALLY LOoOVED THE BOOK!

I've loved Sigal's books ever since I read the Stark series!!!
And even though this one was completely different, it was still really amazing!

I loved every second of it.

I might not have loved every single second of Liv - because she's a bit too weird for me. Well, not really weird - she's really unhappy with her life. There are all her mom's unreachable expectations and her unhappiness with her figure and lots of stuff...she has to understand that she has to deal with everything in her life FOR HERSELF - not because of her mom, or a guy or whatever.

And it takes her this whole book to finally get - or not - who knows ' I'm not telling you!!!! '

I LOOOOooOooOOVED our sexy Spaniard!!! Ugh!!!
He's young, yes, but he's a businessman and really responsible and really handsome and nice and hot and sexy and kind and gorgeous and did I mention HOT AS HELL???? '
Plus - he knows what Liv needs - in every aspect ... she's the only one fighting with everything... but she'll get there one day ' Probably '

I love a good, sexy romance...and this one was just perfect.
Lots of sexy gorgeousness in the form of our nameless Spaniard (He's not nameless of course - but it takes Liv a while to find out his name - so I'm not telling you either!) ...

Oh my lordy! Can Sigal Ehrlich do no wrong?!?! This book is smoking hot I mean a hot spanish man with a beautiful older woman come on does it get any better? This book has steam coming off the pages and the chemistry between the two heroines was incredible. I finished this book in just a few hours fans of Layers and Inner Core will have another favorite to add ti thier collection with this story I mean who doesnt like a man who can cook right!! And Liv shes so strong but at the same time unsure of herself at the sametime but Sebestian just brings out this confidence in her and.she doesnt even seem to relize it because it's so effortless for them to ve around each other and be themselves its a refreshing hot read you dont want to miss!

The holy trinity of a beautiful romance. Sweet, seductive and swoony. This story about self-discovery and taking chances is alluring and beautifully written with charismatic characters that carved a place in my heart.

Liv’s life is awesome. On paper. In reality, she feels a bit hollow, unfulfilled and downright lacking color and excitment. When her best friend Kai announces he’s taking a job abroad for an indefinite amount of time, she decides to be a bit adventurous and a lot brave, takes a yearlong break from everything and moves all the way to a small town in Spain.
"The core of my burn: I want to wake up somewhere else, somewhere completely new. Explore new places, meet new people, experience life, and experience the joys of life... "

Set on finding contentment, along with weekly cyber-sessions with her psychologist, she starts dislodging her cold heart view of herself and begins to appreciate all the little things her new residence has to offer while embracing the warmth the citizens give. Including attentions of one very sexy Spaniard.

While on one of his routine runs on the beach in the small town of Serenidad, Sebastian Noé Balle happens upon the lovely new resident. After a couple of chance meetings and an intense attraction later they start the most enticing journey of their lives. But can Sebastian break through her self-imposed emotional walls? Or will Liv go back to her dissatisfied life in the States?

There are so many things about this book that I adored. I was introduced to Sigal’s writing through her Stark series and really enjoyed her style. I think Leaving Me Behind is her best book yet. It’s been a couple of days since I finished it and am still in book hangover and wishing these characters were as real as they felt and that I could go hangout with them in their exotic country.

Despite her mother’s disapproval and constant scrutiny, Liv is smart and funny and incredibly brave. I loved her even when I wanted to take her by the shoulders and shake because she wouldn’t let her guard down. I loved that she took a chance, even though slowly and cautiously opening up to a new life, a great group of woman and an incredibly provoking man.
“Open them, now tell me if it’s balanced,” he kisses my lips gently. “Complex.” Another kiss. “Evolved.” A more profound one. Tastes like an orgasm? I close my eyes, lick my slightly pulsing lips, his hand trails slowly under the hem of my dress, holding my thigh.

When you look up the word swoon, Sebastian Noé Balle will be listed as an example. He’s the perfect blend of a smart, hardworking businessman and the embodiment of virile and sexy. I loved how he sometimes slowly coaxed and sometimes blatantly pushed Liv into opening up to him so they could reach for more.
“I’m trying to give this a chance to actually grow into something meaningful while you keep going one step forward and ten back… you are afraid to give us a chance.”

The dynamic between Liv and Sebastian is spellbinding. Their bond started out as only physical, but even with all the sizzling moments between Sebastian and Liv, we’re never distracted from the underlining plotline that moves the story forward, which is for Liv to break free of her self-imposed oppression and truly live life.
"My eyes remain closed as I savor the taste of his mouth, his tongue, and his sweet, musky scent wafting around me. God, he smells like warm, rich, spicy chocolate. He smells like molten chocolate with a sprinkle of chili."

Well, maybe I did get a bit distracted at times with the sweet, playful, sinfully seductive, scorching chemistry between these two that set my eReader aflame.

I mentioned before Liv’s group of friends. This group women that gathered periodically reminded me so much of my own friends and get-togethers. Each of them is unique and so very different but at the same time they thoroughly support each other. They added another layer of reality that made me want to go to one of their “cooking classes” or at the very least call my friends up and tell them how much I appreciate them.

Sigal Ehrlich writes an exquisite story in which every attention to detail, from the carefully chosen chapter/song titles that conveyed what was to come, to the beautiful descriptions of places, food and people, to the impossible to ignore Star Wars reference, is brilliantly executed.

Leaving Me Behind is a standalone, contemporary romance novel that will go directly to my re-read shelf. It’s written from the heroine’s point of view. With a wonderful happy ending.

I'm also hoping we'll get to read more about Kai. I'm sure he has some great stories of his own to tell.

Great book, useless for Kindle (for PC app)

As a beginner in BPMN principles, I found this book VERY helpful. BUT:
NOT for Kindle (PC app), the diagram images are practically UNREADABLE. Zoom feature is not supported, you will have to be in a distance closer than 5 cms in order to get an idea of what the diagram is about. That's the only reason I did not rate with 5 stars.

Unusually great, idiomatic translation.

This is a "hit the ground running" BPMN book. Within a week, I was able to use BPMN without any previous knowledge. The writing is both learned and inviting, unusual combination for a translated work. I have been forced into process management through circumstances at work and was not looking forward to the field. But the crisp, no nonse honest writing has been a relief. It's NOT a fluff business jargon book, and technical people should find that a welcome change.

Excellent summary, great detail

Really provides both and excellent summary coupled with lots of followup detail. Good for me as a manager to review and understand first few sections, and good to hand down to team responsible for implementation. We also used as foundation to put together summary for BPM roll out concept. Really all around pleased. Several of the examples have errors or switch terms (English edition), but this is first edition so I hope that they'll correct in next version.

Vincent Pauletti was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1971. After attending Catholic schools for eleven years, he moved to Suffolk County on Long Island, NY with his parents and sister. There he finished his high school education, went on to attend a vocational school and is actively pursuing a BA in Anthropology with minors in History and Art History at Stony Brook University. Once his degree requirements are met, he plans to continue his education until he receives his Phd in Anthropology.He is married to his beautiful wife and they have two boys. Currently, he is in the process of completing his second Omega Sector novel and is writing the third book in the Dawning Days fantasy series. The first in the series, Advent of Storms, was published by Variance Publishing is now available in all eBook formats. Poorly written

The first few chapters convinced me that this man should be doing anything but writing a book. With all the grammatical and punctuation errors, as well as spelling errors, the book is much more aggravating than entertaining. One who would be a professional writer should be much better prepared for the challenge of writing a book than this person presents himself. I could not waste the time to finish the whole book. He does not realize, obviously, that just because he can search out information on weapons, gods, automobiles, and myths does not mean that he can effectively incorporate that data into an entrancing novel. Do not waste your time or money.
